Huge turnoff is the fact that the story is bloody random. Every fan of the game series wanted the third one so bad prior to the release was due to the fact that Naruto RPG 2 ended with the first season (and before what fans refer to as Naruto II). This game is generally the “filler episodes” of the series, which is hated by every single person I have ever met… ever. If you’re can’t read Japanese, don’t worry about it ’cause you ain’t missing anything. One story involves collecting fighting some bad guys, another involves saving a girl, and another involves you going around collecting these jewel… things. Weeee.
Not that bad. The only real issue I have with the graphics is the fact that it remained the same throughout the ENTIRE series. Despite 2 and 3 being on the Nintendo DS, it does not change the fact that it has the EXACT EXACT EXACT same level of graphics as 1 for GBA. Basically, everything is in 2D and has soem sort of miniature figures of the anime characters. Sorry if that’s so vague, but I have no clue how to describe a circulatory term.
Some songs. Catchy. Super catchy. Most songs in Naruto RPG 3 – Reijuu Vs. Kinoha Shoutai is horrible. Super horrible. You have midi versions of some songs are actually rehashes of the previous titles and most of which consists of tunes from the real show. There’s the cliche themes like the battle theme, end fight, experience point menu, hero comes to save the day, and etc. Main problem is that the songs get overly repetitive.
This makes up both the good and the bad of Naruto RPG 3 – Reijuu Vs. Kinoha Shoutai. You have a large cast of characters to join you on a three man party. Each character has his or her own unique abilities and specialties and some can be combined together to form combinational attaks. Battles are RPG based, but with a slight twist. Using the stylus pad, you draw out symbols to form ninjutsu seasl when you use a special. If you accomplish it, it works. If you don’t, it fails or with rare types, does an extremely weaker version. Besides your Jutsu (abilities), battle is very similar to regular RPG’s that include items, attack, defend, and blah blah blah.
There’s a total of 6 places that you can visit. Uhh.. yeah. Not a lot ain’t it? Here’s another bugger: each trip you make to another area forces you to play a platforming minigame where you control Naruto as he moves around collecting 20 crystals and 1 frog. EVERY trip forces you to play this, so it gets super old, super fast. Another horrid thing to this game is the face that it only takes someone around 10 hours to finish the whole way and there is very little replayability so don’t even bother. Of course, it comes with WiFi which pits you against other players, but after a while (including after unlocking all the stuff WiFi battles can get you) it gets old… like the minigame!
I won’t lie to you guys. This game was annoying. I wasted so much time hoping that I would get somethere more than “go fetch this” or “go kill that”, but I sadly didn’t. I had a lot of fun using all of the characters because I consider myself an avid fan of the manga and anime, but everything outside of the battle system was deterring. Rawr!
